Getting around Tbilisi
How the metro, buses and minibuses work and what they cost, taxi apps, and getting from the airport to the centre.
Updated 25.10.2026
Tbilisi is compact but hilly. Two metro lines, buses and minibuses cover most of it for one fare, ₾1 with 90 minutes of free changes, and taxis booked in an app cost little. Here's how it all works, as of October 2026.
Paying for rides
- Tap a bank card or a Metromoney card (₾2 from any metro station) when you board.
- ₾1 covers 90 minutes of rides on the metro, buses and the city's minibuses.
- Passes on the Metromoney card: ₾3 a day, ₾20 a week, ₾40 a month.
- Paying in cash or by app doesn't give you the 90 minutes, and riding without paying costs a ₾20 fine.
The metro
Two lines, 23 stations, changing at Station Square, running from about six in the morning to midnight. It serves Saburtalo, Rustaveli and Liberty Square, Marjanishvili and Avlabari well; Vake has no station. Every place to work near each station, with walking times: for example near Rustaveli metro and near Marjanishvili metro.
Buses and minibuses
Google Maps shows bus routes, and the city's own app, Tbilisi Transport, shows the buses live. Yellow minibuses numbered in the 400s and 500s stop where you wave them down; ask the driver to stop where you want to get off.
Taxis
Book through Bolt, Yandex Go or Maxim; there's no Uber. A short ride of 2–4 km costs about ₾4–₾7 and 6–10 km ₾8–₾15, more at rush hour and in the rain. Avoid street taxis, which have no meters.
From the airport
Bus 337 runs from the airport to Station Square through Avlabari, Liberty Square and Rustaveli, every 15–23 minutes from about seven in the morning to eleven at night, for ₾1; it takes about an hour. A taxi booked in an app costs ₾15–₾40; the airport's own fixed-price taxi to the centre is ₾40.
Walking, scooters and the cable car
The city climbs from about 380 to 770 metres, so the walk between neighbourhoods often has a hill in it. Shared e-scooters from Bolt and others are everywhere (18 and over), and the cable car from Rike Park up to Narikala costs ₾2.5.
Driving
A foreign driving licence is valid for a year from your last entry into Georgia; after that it can be exchanged for a Georgian one without a test.
Choosing where to work by the metro
Most coworking spaces in Saburtalo are a few minutes from a station, while Vake's need a taxi or a bus. The rankings, district by district: the best coworking in Saburtalo, in Vake and in Chugureti.
