Freelancing from Georgia
How freelancers in Georgia get paid from abroad, register as an individual entrepreneur and use the 1% small business status.
Updated 25.10.2026
Georgia draws freelancers for two reasons: registering as an individual entrepreneur takes about a day, and the small business status taxes turnover at 1%. Getting paid takes a little planning, because some payment services don't work for people living here. This is how it fits together, as of October 2026.
Getting paid
- Bank transfer: the usual route, in dollars or euros straight into a Georgian account; incoming transfers cost a small percentage. How to open one: a bank account in Georgia.
- Wise: residents of Georgia can hold balances and receive money, but can't get the Wise card.
- Payoneer: works, paying out in dollars to a Georgian bank, with fees of 1.2–4% on withdrawals and a yearly fee on small volumes.
- PayPal: works, with a fee of about ₾14 per withdrawal and 3–4% on currency conversion.
- Revolut and Stripe don't accept people or businesses based in Georgia; freelancers who need Stripe use a company registered abroad.
Registering as an individual entrepreneur
An individual entrepreneur registers at the Public Service Hall, usually in a day, and then opens a separate business bank account. It needs a legal address, which a coworking space or a virtual office can provide: a virtual office in Tbilisi. Step by step: opening a company in Georgia.
The 1% small business status
Once registered, an individual entrepreneur can apply online for small business status: 1% tax on turnover up to ₾500,000 a year and 3% above it, open to non-residents too. Some work is excluded, including legal, medical, tax and audit consulting, and advisory and financial services. The rules, the filings and what changed recently: taxes for freelancers in Georgia.
Where to work
A desk with steady Wi-Fi and a quiet room for calls: the best coworking spaces in Tbilisi, or for less, the cheapest. For a client meeting: meeting rooms by the hour.
